| | | Robert E. Burns Sr., 81, of Garrettsville, passed away on August 25, 2009. He was born April 29, 1928 in Morgantown, West Virginia to Luther and Margaret ( nee Jackson ) Burns. Robert was employed at Polson Rubber in Garrettsville for 20 years before retiring in 1990 from Chrysler in Twinsburg. He was also a coal miner in West Virginia and Pennsylvania. Robert was a Korean War Veteran where he served as a Sergeant First Class in the 92nd Armor Division Red Devils. He was a member of the Windham American Legion Post # 674 and Veterans of Foreign Wars in Masontown, WV. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, gardening, working on cars, mushroom hunting, and bluegrass music. Robert especially cherished spending time with his beloved family and friends.
Robert is survived by his wife Ruth ( nee Blosser )who he wed on April 21,1956; his daughter Brenda ( Tom ) Liddle of Windham; son Robert Burns Jr. of Garrettsville; brothers Arnold ( Nita ) of Leavittsburg, Luther Jr. of Artherdale, WV; sisters Bonnie Fields of Masontown, WV, Maxine Bennett and Barbara Haseley of Morgantown, WV. ; granddaughters Melody ( Ben ) Rising of Killbuck, Miranda ( John ) Hebb of Edinburg, and Erica Burns of Windham; 7 great grandsons Zachary and Jarrod Cain, Blaine and Briar Rising, Brody and Colton Hebb, and Dominic Bortz; great granddaughters Dylan Hessling and Audrey Rising. He was preceded in death by his parents; son Duane; grandson Kyle; brother Kenneth; and sister Doris.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 PM on Thursday, August 27, 2009 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be at 11 AM on Friday, August 28, 2009 at the funeral home with Jeff Wyatt officiating. Burial will follow at Windham Township Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 8382 Center St., Garrettsville, OH 44231.
