Melana Kathleen Matson, 9 years old of Garrettsville, ran to the open arms of Jesus on Tuesday, October 27, 2009. She was born March 30, 2000 in Chardon to Heather (Fashing) Matson (Dave Mazey) of Garrettsville and John Matson of Garrettsville. Melana was a 4th. grade student at Garfield Elementary School. She was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, the Garrettsville-Windham Soccer Club, and was an avid Webkinz collector. She was also a nature lover.
Melana is also survived by her maternal grandparents, Norm and Joyce Fashing of Garrettsville; paternal grandparents, Bob and “Aunt Cindy” Matson of Garrettsville; great grandmother Christine Zalar of Barberton and great-grandfather, William E. Fashing Sr. of Flat Rock, MI.; aunts, Robin (Jeff) Perrotti of Yakima, WA and Beth Matson of Merrillville, IN; uncles, Mike (Janelle) Matson of Cincinnati and Benjamin (Kendra) Fashing of Garrettsville; cousins, Anna, Brendan, Max and McKenna; special friends, Morgan and Andrew Mazey; and beloved cat, “Mimi.” She was predeceased by her paternal grandmother, Lynne Matson.
Visitation will be 4-8 PM on Friday, Oct. 30, 2009 at Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 8382 Center St., Garrettsville, Ohio 44231 and 10-11 AM on Saturday at St. Ambrose Church, followed by Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 11 AM with Fr. Leo Wehrlin officiating. PLEASE MEET AT THE CHURCH. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery in Garretttsville.
