| | | | Edith T Bernard, age 80, passed away June 19, 2008 at Hilltop Health Center after a brief illness. Mrs. Bernard was born March 1, 1928 in New York City. She was a longtime resident of the Norwalk and Bridgeport area. She was pre-deceased by her parents Mr. Percival Thomas and Mrs. Ethel Maude Thomas. She is survived by her husband, Martin Bernard of Norwalk. Two daughters, Sharon Ann Bernard of Bridgeport and Letamarie Bernard Highsmith of Middlebury. One son-in-law, Carlton L Highsmith also of Middlebury. Two grandchildren, Alexis Nicole Highsmith and Jennifer Lynn Highsmith, both of Hamden. And a host of extended family and friends. Edith retired from the City of Norwalk's Tax Collector's Office in 1993 after 25 years of service to the city of Norwalk. She was a faithful and dedicated member of St. Ambrose Church and a member of the Golden Hill Senior Center. She was an avid traveler. Friends are invited to attend a visitation hour on Monday June 23 from 8:30 until 9:30 am at the Cyril F. Mullins Funeral Home located at 1640 Boston Avenue in Bridgeport. (Note: parking lot entrance for the funeral home is on Ridgefield Avenue). A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 am at St Ambrose Catholic Church located at 1596 Boston Avenue (adjacent to the funeral home)
A private internment ceremony will be held at Silver Mount Cemetery in Staten Island, New York. Memorial contributions may be made to St Ambrose Church at 1596 Boston Ave. Bridgeport, Ct 06610, American Heart Association at 5 Brookside Drive Wallingford, Ct 06492 or the National Kidney Foundation of CT at 2139 Silas Deane Highway Rocky Hill, CT 06067.
