| | | Charles E. Chapman, 82, of Huntington, WV, passed away Sunday, October 12, 2008, in the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. Funeral service will be conducted 11:00 AM Wednesday, October 15, 2008, at Chapman’s Mortuary, Huntington, by the Rev. Jeffrey Arthur. Entombment will be in the Abbey of Remembrance, Corridor of Faith, Woodmere Memorial Park. Charles was born May 13, 1926 in Huntington, WV, a son of the late Elmer Marion Chapman, Sr. & Zelma Holley Chapman. He was a member of the 4Th Ave. United Methodist Church, of which he was former trustee & Sunday School Superintendent, Golden Rule Sunday School class, Western Star Lodge # 11 A.F. & A.M,. whose members will conduct Masonic graveside rites, Royal Arch Mason, Guyandotte # 10, Huntington Commandery Knights Templar # 9, 32 degree Scottish Rite of Freemasonry Valley of Huntington, Beni Kedem Shrine of Charleston, V.F.W. Post 9738, West Virginia Funeral Directors Association, National Funeral Directors Association, Past Patron Guyandotte Chapter # 89 OES whose members will conduct Eastern Star Services 8:00 PM Tuesday, Past Grand Patron of WV. OES of which he was very proud, Charter member of the East Huntington Kiwanis Club & was the 1St secretary, a graduate of H.E.H.S class of 1944 where he played football, baseball & ran track, a U.S. Army veteran serving in the South Pacific, a graduate of Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science. He was President of Chapman’s Mortuary, which he & his brother Elmer, Jr. established in September 9, 1951. He was also preceded in death by his brother Elmer Marion Chapman, Jr. Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years Gladys Bauer Chapman, one son & daughter-in-law Charles Wayne & Rosemarie Chapman of Huntington, one daughter & son-in-law Teresa Louise & Braxton Leaberry of Nashville, TN., three granddaughters Melissa Marie Leaberry, Katherine Louise Leaberry & Margaret Braxton Leaberry, two grandsons Charles Wayne Chapman II & Chase William Chapman, one sister Alma Loumedia Holley of Proctorville, OH., and several nieces & nephews. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Raymond Aliff, Vickie Crook, Margie Copley and all those who provided loving care and support at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House.
