| Ruth E. Oathout Orr, age 70, of Johnstown, passed away on Thursday November 27, 2008 at Nathan Littauer Hospital, after being stricken at home.
She was born March 5, 1938 in Wells, to the late David W. Gallup and Ruth Buyce Gallup. Ruth was employed for a number of years at the former Winig Slipper Co. until she retired due to illness. She was a volunteer for Stan DeVoe, Clay Smith and Robins Nest in Broadalbin. Survivors include her husband of 39 years Edward A. Orr; four brothers Harold Gallup and his wife Flora of Broadalbin, Sherrill Gallup and his wife Colleen of Mayfield, Ralph Gallup of Johnstown, and Howard Gallup of Gloversville; four sisters Marion Hill and her husband Richard of Mayfield, Florence Hopkins of Johnstown, Lucille Colburn of Franklin, and Marjery Brockhum of Gloversville; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a sister Evelyn Edwards; and her brothers Donald, Joseph, Norman, George, Gordon and Roscoe Gallup. . Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home Inc. 215 East Main Street, Johnstown. Rev. Dr. R. W. Williams will preside. Friends and family may call on Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Fern Dale Cemetery, Johnstown. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
