Evelyn M. Blakeslee, age 53, of Gloversville, passed away on Saturday February 7, 2009 at Mountain Valley Hospice House, after an extended illness.
She was born January 14, 1956 in Gloversville, to the late Richard Courtney and Dorothy Page Courtney.
Evelyn was employed at Fonda Speedway, Pit Stop of Gloversville, Pan-Am Leather, house keeper for the Corell family, and also as a Nanny in NYC.
Her greatest joy was caring for the numerous children of family and friends that she dedicated her life to caring for, and she was loved by all.
Mrs. Blakeslee was a member of the Foothills United Methodist Church, she was also active in bowling at Star-light and Perry Lanes, her league memberships include Sunday Gazers, Saturday Night Heller’s, and Guys & Dolls.
She was a volunteer for SOCKS, and her hobbies included Crocheting, bingo, Saratoga Racetrack, casinos, and the Great Escape, Dirt Track, and NASCAR.
Survivors include her husband Brett Blakeslee whom she married on March 25, 1978; two brothers Willard Blakeslee and his wife Virginia of Virginia, Daniel Courtney and Donna of Gloversville; two sisters Lillian Barr of Gloversville, and Rose Van Etten and husband Dan of Gloversville; in-laws Albert and Eleanor Blakeslee of Florida, brother-in-laws, Brian Blakeslee of Fonda, Bruce Blakeslee of Gloversville, James Blakeslee of Gloversville; sister-in laws Diane Yaeger of Amsterdam, Kimberly Schuyler of Broadalbin, Karen Blanchard of Mayfield; Arthur and Wendy Spring of Johnstown; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, and her dog Cuddles.
In addition to her parents she was predeceased by two infant children.
Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home Inc. 215 East Main Street, Rev. Cynthia J. Van Allen will preside.
Friends and family may call on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Fish House Cemetery in the spring.
Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Foothills United Methodist Church Building Fund or to the American Cancer Society.
