| | | James D. Berry, age 55, a resident of Johnstown, Passed away on Friday April 10, 2009 at St. Mary’s Hospital, Amsterdam, after a courageous nine year battle with cancer.
He was born December 13, 1953 in Gloversville, a son of the late Douglas C. Berry and Elizabeth Young Berry.
Jim was employed as a Communications Technician for Frontier until July 2008 due to his illness.
Mr. Berry proudly served his Country in the U. S. Army for a total of twenty two years, he attained the rank of first Sergeant, and during Desert Storm he was assigned to oversee the operating room at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC, following his active duty Jim served in the Army National Guard and Army Reserves, his service medals include the Army Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, Army Reserve Components Training Ribbon, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Expert Badge with M-16 Rifle Badge, and the Sharpshooter Badge with a .45 Caliber Pistol Bar.
He was a member of the Bleecker Street Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife Pamela McGregor Berry whom he married May 28, 1977; two daughters Lisa Marie Berry of Astoria, and Jennifer Elizabeth Berry of Maryland; one brother Douglas C. Berry Jr. and his wife Jean of Rochester; many, nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a sister Carolyn Constantino.
Funeral services will be conducted on Monday at 10:00 a.m. from the A. G. Cole Funeral Home Inc., 215 East Main Street, Johnstown. The Rev. George Hopper and Sandra Geer will preside.
Friends and family may call on Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Interment with Military Honors will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda.
