Alvin H. Ort, age 77, a resident of Johnstown, passed away on Monday, June 15, 2009, at Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville, after a long illness. He was born March 15, 1932 in Gloversville, a son of the late Anthony Ort and Edith Mosher Ort.
Alvin was graduate of Mayfield High School, and was selected the Valedictorian of his class. He served his Country in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged on March 27, 1957. He was a member of the North Bush Methodist Church, past member of the Johnstown Loyal Order of Moose, and past President of the Johnstown Little league. Mr. Ort enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was employed as a Fireman with the Johnstown Fire Dept., he also worked for Lee Dye Co. of Johnstown, and was last employed with Lane Construction until his retirement.
Survivors include his wife Carol Carr Ort whom he married on February 12, 1988; one son Randy Ort of Florida; one daughter Nanette Kersting of Gloversville; two sisters Marion Redden of Hoosick Falls, and Shirley Hoose of Johnstown; one brother Robert Ort of Bedford Hills; three grandchildren Stephen, Jacqui, and Justin; 15 step- grandchildren, 3 step- great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. from the A.G. Cole Funeral Home, Inc. 215 East Main Street, Johnstown. The Rev. Jerry Oliver will preside
Friends and family may call on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Interment with Military Honors will be at the North Bush Cemetery.
