Richard S. Brower, age 79, a resident of Mayfield, passed away on Friday, June 19, 2009, at Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville, after being stricken at home. He was born April 20, 1930 in Gloversville, the son of the late Nathan Brower and Vera Harris Brower. Mr. Brower attended Gloversville Schools, and was employed at the former Harding & Harris Fur Co. of Gloversville, and later was employed at the General Electric Co., from 1970 until he retired in 1990. He attended the Mayfield Methodist Church.
Richard served in the New York Army National Guard from 1950 until 1958.
Survivors include his wife Joyce Montoney Brower whom he married on April 24, 1954; one son Richard M. Brower and his wife Debbie of Johnstown; one daughter Coral Clark and her husband Gary of Gloversville; one brother Stanley Brower and his wife Darlene of Gloversville; one brother-in-law Mark Montoney and his wife Barbara of Syracuse; three grandchildren Andrea Yowpa and husband John, Gregory Clark and his wife Caitlin, Christopher Brower and his wife Sandra; three great grandchildren Jason Clark, Josephine Clark, and Ian Yowpa; four nieces, and three nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother Donald Brower in 1997.
Funeral services will be conducted on Monday at 11:00 a.m. from the A.G. Cole Funeral Home, Inc. 215 East Main Street, Johnstown. The Rev Jerry Oliver will preside.
Friends and family may call on Monday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville.
Memorial contributions may be made in Richard’s memory to the Mayfield Methodist Church.
