Martha Ann Goold Wood died on September 6, 2009, after a long and heroic struggle with cancer. Martha’s life long passion was art. She possessed a boundless creative spirit: drawing, painting, creating objects d’art, and endlessly working in the decorative arts. She was a student at FMCC (SUNY) and a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
Ms. Wood founded and operated Rabbit’s Run in Fort Hunter at the Queen Anne’s parsonage and subsequently moved the business to Johnstown. Many will long remember the times spent in her shop talking about art, music, local history and so much more. In addition to her art, she will be remembered for her teaching, and her devotion to the children of the Greater Johnstown School District that rode her school bus.
Martha is survived by her husband, Mark E. Wood III, their son, Mark E. Wood IV, mother, Barbara W. Goold of Rotterdam, brother Howard L. Goold of Rotterdam, sister Sara Goold Horne of Westport, CT, sister Margaret Merchant of Johnstown, and sister Jane Goold of Vero Beach, Fl, four nieces, five nephews and one grandnephew.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Nathan Littauer Hospital for their great compassion to Martha and her family in the last days of her life.
A memorial service is being planned and will be announced in the near future.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Nathan Littauer Hospital, 99 East State Street, Gloversville, NY 12078. Also an art scholarship in her memory is being planned and will be announced.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the A.G. Cole Funeral Home, Inc. 215 East Main Street, Johnstown.
Condolences to the family may be made online by visiting our website at www.agcolefuneralhome.com.
