| Marjorie Lucille Devon Sluyter, age 86, formerly of Gloversville, died Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at her home in Mulberry, Florida. She was born on July 16, 1923 to Joseph and Florence Devon in Elmira, New York. Marjorie was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, Gloversville where she had faithfully served as a Sunday School Teacher, Pioneer Girl Leader and Missions Treasurer. She had also been active in the local Christian Women’s Club where she helped in various capacities including being a Bible Study Leader. Survivors include her husband of 68 years Harold E. Sluyter whom she married on June 22, 1941. She is also survived by three children Beth Gates and her husband William of Johnstown, Cynthia Ruch and her husband Thomas of Queensbury and Timothy Sluyter of Gloversville; one sister Lucia Mosher of Horseheads, New York : nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her brother Bradley Devon, and a sister Charlotte Thomas.
Funeral services will be conducted on Monday at 10:00 a.m. from the Emmanuel Baptist Church, 52 Union Street, Gloversville. Pastor Peter Ellis will preside. Friends and family may call on Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home, Inc. 215 East Main Street, Johnstown. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made in her memory to the Emmanuel Baptist Church, or to Hope Hospice, 9470 Healthpark Circle, Fort Myers, Florida. 33905.
