| | | Benjamin D. Hayner Sr., age 81, of Rockwood. Passed away on Friday October 23, 2009, at home, following a long illness. He was born on October 24, 1927 in Rockwood, a son of the late Ross Hayner and Edna Chatterton Hayner. Ben served his Country in the U.S. Navy from 1944 until his honorable discharge in 1946. He was first employed at local tanneries and then worked as a truck driver for A. Frederick Inc. and was last employed with Green Island until his retirement.
Ben was an avid hunter and outdoorsman, he was also the trail boss for the ATV Club Royal Mountain Moonlighters.
Survivors include his wife Beverly Showerman Hayner whom he married on January 10, 1948; three sons Ross Hayner (Cathy) , Benjamin D. Hayner Jr. (Meri) and Earl W. Hayner all of Johnstown; three daughters Ann Marie Brown (Ben) of Perth, Tracy Person (Christopher) of Amsterdam, and Linda Hayner of Rockwood; two sisters Josephine Snell (Albert) and Ada Heroth of Caroga Lake; 23 grandchildren, several great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a son Stanley B. Hayner, a brother Ralph Hayner, and three sisters Della Dillenbeck, Beatrice Christman, and Elizabeth Mulligan.
Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. from the A.G. Cole Funeral Home, Inc. 215 East Main Street, Johnstown. With Dr. Rev R.W. Williams presiding.
Friends and family may call on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in North Bush Cemetery.
