In the late 1800's and early 1900's, Henry Edgerton served a a funeral director in the upstairs portion of his furniture store. His advertised slogan was "Serving families from the craddle to the grave". H. M. Grizzard worked for Mr. Edgerton and aquired interest in the furniture and funeral business.

In August of 1948 H. M. Grizzard announced the grand opening of Grizzard Funeral Home offering the most up to date service and equipment.

Through the years the funeral home was handed down to Mr. Grizzard's son and eventually to his grandson.
In the early 1980's the Grizzard Funeral Home was sold out of the family and in July of 1990 the business was bought by Gerald W. Coley, and the name was changed to Grizzard-Coley Funeral Home. After being joined by his son G. W. "Chip" Coley II the Grizzard name was removed from the funeral home name.

The original building as shown above is still being used, however, several changes have been to stay up to date with todays changing funeral needs.

The funeral home is now under the direction of Anthony Minshew and the Minshew Family of Four Oaks with a continued dedication to preserving the heritage of this fine facility.
