| | | Dateline: Manly Arvilla Ann Kobernusz, 80, of Manly, died Thursday, August 27, 2009, at the Ambassador Good Samaritan Nursing Home in New Hope, Minnesota.
A celebration of Arvilla's life will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, September 1, 2009, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 428 West Walnut, Manly, with Pastor Linda Johnson Prestholt officiating. Inurnment will be held in the Manly Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time on Tuesday at the church.
The family has suggested that those wishing to express their sympathy may wish to consider memorial contribution be made in her memory, to be given to special charities that Arvilla loved.
Bride Colonial Chapel, 110 East Spring Street, Manly is in charge of the arrangements.
Arvilla Ann Kobernusz was born on September 25, 1928, in Manly, Iowa, the daughter of Alvin H. and Charlotte (Stickfort) Kobernusz. She attended Worth County schools, graduating from Manly High School. Arvilla graduated from Wartburg College and taught for a short time in Glidden, Iowa, Forest City, Iowa, and Fairmont, Minnesota. Arvilla then graduated with a Masters degree from the University of Iowa in Iowa City. Arvilla taught biology at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota and also was a guidance counselor at St. Louis Park, Minnesota for over 20 years until her retirement. Arvilla was full of adventure where she accomplished several adventurous undertakings, ushering at a Minnesota Vikings game, traveled to Antarctica, Africa, back packing in Europe in the Alps, and the Rocky Mountains in Colorado. Arvilla also enjoyed embroidering dishtowels, making a grandfather clock, and woodworking.
Arvilla was an active member at Christ The King Lutheran Church in New Brighton, Minnesota, and a life long member at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Manly.
Those left to cherish her memory are her brother; Earl (Carol) Kobernusz of Manly, sister-in-law; Nova (Gale) Cook of Manly, a special niece; Charlotte Clark of Maple Grove, Minnesota, numerous other special nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Arvilla was preceded in death by her parents, brothers and sisters; Melvin, Loyal, and Elton Kobernusz, Iola Miller and Evelyn Clausen, and an infant brother and sister.
