| | | Mason City- Jeanette D. Friend, 84 of Mason City died Monday (October 12, 2009) at Good Shepherd Health Center, Mason City.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M. Friday (October 16, 2009) at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St NE, Mason City, with Rev. Dennis Ganz, officiating. Burial will be in Park Cemetery, Nora Springs.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 P.M. Thursday at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel 126 3rd St NE, Mason City, and one hour prior to services Friday morning.
Memorial may be made to Hospice of North Iowa or the donor’s choice.
Jeanette D. Friend was born August 21, 1925 at Hansell, a daughter of John W. and Lucille H. (Dodd) Davis. She was united in marriage to Lyle D. Moore on May 23, 1942, Missouri.
Jeanette attended school at Hansell and Rock Falls. As a freshman, Jeanette played forward on the 1940 Hansell High School State Championship basketball team. In a packed Drake Fieldhouse, 7000 fans saw Hansell defeat Waterville 39-20 for the state title. Hansell returned to the state tournament in 1941.
Jeanette and her husband Lyle farmed east of Rock Falls for several years. Following Lyle’s death in 1967, Jeanette moved to Mason City, where she worked making draperies at Weber Carpet Company. For several years she worked at Libby-Owens-Ford Company, Mason City, retiring in 1973.
Jeanette married Everett D. Friend on October 10, 1973 at the Little Brown Church, Nashua.
She was an avid gardener and loved caring for her lawn. She enjoyed baking, horseback riding and fishing. Jeanette’s life was centered on her family, her greatest joy was caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
During her years in Rock Falls, Jeanette was an active member of the Old Stone United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir and taught Bible school.
She is survived by two daughters, Patricia (Peter) Colman, Urbandale, Debra (J.D.) Nelson, Clear Lake; grandchildren, Tammy (Jim) Foreman, Ankeny, Kimberly (Dan) Callahan, Grimes, Sara (Andy) Briggs, Chaska, Minn, Andrew (Jill) Nelson, Pella, Aaron Nelson, Wichita, Kans; great-grandchildren, Colman and James Foreman, Kylie and Sierra Callahan, Kenny and Harry Briggs, Jenna, Samuel, Ezekiel, and Jada Nelson; sister, Bette J. Winters, Marble Rock; many nieces and nephews, and Everett’s family, son, Jack (Bev) Friend, Clinton, grandchildren, Julie Friend, David (Jamie) Friend, Daniel (Karen) Friend; great-grandchildren, Aidan, Dylan, Colin and Carson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lyle Moore; her husband Everett Friend, brother, John Davis, Jr. infant great grandson Joseph Briggs and Everett’s son and daughter in-law, Terry (Winnie) Friend.
