| | | Harold Louis Bartling, 76, of 210 Mars Hill Dr., Clear Lake, Iowa , died after a short and courageous battle with cancer Saturday Oct. 24, 2009 in Mason City, Iowa.
Memorial services will be 11:00a.m. Thursday Oct. 29, 2009 at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, Iowa with Rev. Dennis Ganz officiating. Inurnment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, Iowa with military honors by the Clear Lake V.F.W. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00-7:00p.m. at the funeral home. Family suggests memorials to Hospice of North Iowa.
Harold was born Oct. 31, 1932 in Denver, Iowa the son of Charles F. and Bertha (Heidemann) Bartling. He attended school in Denver.
He served stateside in the United State Army from 1954-1956.
Harold married Frances Bolt Oct. 8, 1954 at the Little Brown Church, Nashua, Iowa.
They moved to Clear Lake in 1956 and worked for his brother-in-law Harold Chaney, Chaney Plumbing and Heating for over thirty years. During this time he and his wife also owned and operated Melodee Lanes from 1969-1977. In 1990 he started working for Lake Plumbing and Heating until he retired in 1994.
He was inducted into the Clear Lake Bowling Hall of Fame1979. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, golfing, watching game shows, listening to country music,gambling, spending time with his family and his very special friends Jerry Faber and Terri and Ron Gustin.
He is survived by his four sons; Kevin Bartling, Eldora, Iowa, Ken Bartling and his wife Denise, Garner, Iowa, Brian Bartling, Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Brad Bartling and his wife Renee, Rockford, Iowa; nine grandchildren Jayna, Stephen, Hayley, Justin, Jeremy, Katrina, Jake, Ryan and Rebecca; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters Marie Chaney, Lady Lake, Florida and Mildred Cook, Waterloo, Iowa and his loyal companion Lucky the dog.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers Edwin and Elmer Bartling and two brother-in-laws Harold Chaney and Harlan Cook.
