Mr. James E. LaFever, 71 of Montrose, Iowa, died early morning, Friday, July 31, 2009 at Montrose Health Center, Montrose, Iowa.
Mr. LaFever was born October 2, 1937, in Keokuk, Iowa, the son of Albert L. and Theckla Jane Mathes LaFever. He married Mary Louise Roberts and she preceded him in death.
He graduated from Keokuk High School. He moved to McKeys Port, Pennsylvania, then returned to Keokuk. He was employed as a truck driver. When he returned from Pennsylvania he worked at Foote Mineral, then General Mills, and retired from Hinkle Company. He was in the Army from 1957 though 1961. He was a member of the Keokuk Labor Union Local and American Legion Post #729 of Des Moines.
He is survived by one son, Clifford LaFever of McKeys Port, Pennsylvania; one daughter, Kathy LaFever of Coral Springs, Florida; one step-son, James E. West and his wife Kathy of Wayland, Missouri; two grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; two sisters, Danna LaFever of Florida and Andrea Hagmeier and her husband, Jesse, of Keokuk; one sister-in-law, Jennie LaFever of Keokuk; and numerous nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his grandparents; and one brother, Robert LaFever.
Graveside services with military rites were held Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Keokuk National Cemetery with Rev. Wesley Davis officiating.
