Nathan James Bowden, 20, of Keokuk, died early Sunday morning, August 30, 2009, as the result of a one car accident north of Iowa City.

Nathan was born July 17, 1989, in Keokuk, Iowa, the son of James Edward and Rebecca Lynn Ackerson Bowden. He graduated from Keokuk High School in 2008 and attended Southeastern Community College. He was currently enrolled at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.

Nate enjoyed spending time with his family. He loved all sports and participated in wrestling and baseball. More than the sports, he enjoyed the friends he participated in them with. He is survived by his parents, Jim & Becky Bowden of Keokuk; his sister, Erica Bowden and nephew, Peyton; his grandmothers, Helen Ackerson and Beverly Oretell; Uncle Jim Ackerson (Mary Boyd), Aunt Kathy Gabel (Steve), Uncle Rick Bowden (Debbie), Uncle Tim Bowden (Lisa), Uncle Terry Bowden, Uncle John Bowden (Cassie), Aunt Vicki Brookhart (Luke); numerous cousins including Jessica Hoffman (Adam).

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Merlin J. Ackerson and paternal grandfather, John E. Bowden.

Funeral services were Thursday, September 3, 2009, at Trinity United Methodist Church with Dr. Emmanuel Dass officiating. Burial followed in Oakland Cemetery.

A Memorial Scholarship Fund is established in his name.
