Nelson Lee Rogers, 73, of North Vernon died Thursday, July 31, 2008, at his home.

Mr. Rogers was employed at Ford Motor Company in Detroit, Michigan for 31 years, retiring in 1996. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1952 - 1957, earning the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and National Defense Service Medal. In 1979, he received a GED from the Michigan Department of Education. He was a member of The Lord’s Chapel in North Vernon and enjoyed playing euchre.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 5, at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home in North Vernon with the Rev. Michael Biggs officiating. Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and after 1 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Madison. Graveside military honors will be conducted by North Vernon Veterans of Foreign Wars Matt Hester Post 2021.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Juvenile Diabetes Association.

Born October 9, 1934, in Madison, Mr. Rogers was the son of Alvin and Zona George Rogers.

Surviving are sons, Nelson (Tammy) Rogers, Jr. of Eminence, Jeffrey (Theda) Rogers of Avon, Bryan (Tammy) Rogers of Gosport and David Rogers of Detroit; daughters, Kimberly Rogers of Detroit and Erin Rogers; sisters, Loretta Gardner of Austin and Carolyn (James) Chilton of Vine Grove, Kentucky; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Billy Rogers; six brothers; and three sisters.
