| | | Johnnie Lee Dowery, Sr., 64, of North Vernon, died at 3:31 p.m. Wednesday, August 13, 2008, at Kings’ Daughter’s Hospital in Madison.
Mr. Dowery worked for Indiana-Kentucky Electric at the Clifty Creek Plant in Madison for 23 years, retiring November 1, 2004. A member of the Masonic Lodge, he was a Master Mason. He was also a member of A.A.R.P. and enjoyed listening to a variety of music.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, August 18, at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home in North Vernon with the Revs. Samuel Willis and Charles Willis officiating. Calling is from 11 a.m. until time of the service.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the Johnnie Dowery Scholarship Fund for his grandchildren.
Born December 29, 1943, in Jackson, Mississippi, Mr. Dowery was the son of Gertrude Dowery.
Surviving are four sons, Johnnie Lee Dowery, Jr., of St. Paul, Minnesota, Andrew Dowery and Jonathan Jones of Madison, and Jermaine Robert Dowery of Indianapolis; three daughters, Tamika Dowery of Madison and Evelyn Dowery and Alicia Dowery of North Vernon; six brothers, Robert Dowery of Clarksdale, Miss., Pete Willis Sr., of Michigan, and Carl, Samuel, Frank and Leroy Willis of Indianapolis; six sisters, Gertrude Wilson, Rose Marshall, Laura Cosby and Doris Wilson of Indianapolis, Dorothy Nicholson of Ft. Wayne and Maylee Johnson of Mississippi; and 13 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Natasha Dowery; and grandsons, Ja’Siah John Edward Dowery and Malichi Nobel John Dowery.
