| | | Paul D. Ashby, 63, of North Vernon died at 5:49 p.m. Friday, September 12, 2008, at St. Vincent Jennings Hospital in North Vernon.
Mr. Ashby had served in the U.S. Marine Corps and retired from the U.S. Navy. He was a life member of the Salem Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6636 and Salem American Legion Post 0041.
He attended Madison Consolidated Schools in Madison, Indiana. Mr. Ashby enjoyed driving and fishing.
The funeral will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 16, at the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison with the North Vernon Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2021 officiating. Calling will be from 12:30 p.m. until time of the service. Burial will be at the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.
Born January 8, 1945, in Madison, Mr. Ashby was the son of Raymond and Viola Goins Ashby. He married Verna Grace Cain Ashby on October 13, 1998 at the Salvation Army Church in Madison.
Survivors include his wife; two sons; one daughter; brothers, Larry (Susan) Ashby of Muncie and Benjamin (Barb) Ashby, James Ashby, and Richard Ashby of Madison; sisters, Sylvia Privis of Jonesburg, Missouri, Virginia Vincent of North Vernon, Mary Woodfill, Betty Walters, Bonny McClure and Maria Burchfield of Madison; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Raymond Ashby; three sisters, Joyce Ashby, Annabelle Gaylord, and Jessie Shallenberger.
