Helen Ilene Conklin, 70, of North Vernon passed away at 3:55 p.m. Friday, September 19, 2008, at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility in Columbus, Indiana.

Mrs. Conklin was a homemaker. She graduated in 1956 from Ross High School in Ross, Ohio. She attended Tiffin University in Tiffin, Ohio. She was the Secretary to the President and Vice President of the University while attending college there in the early 1970's.

Mrs. Conklin had been an active member of the Foster Grandparent Program at Sandcreek Elementary School since 2002. She enjoyed playing bingo at St. Mary’s, fishing, golfing, canning, reading, gardening and loved hummingbirds.

The funeral will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday , September 23, at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home with the Reverend Don Messer officiating. Calling is from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday and after 10:00 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be at the Vernon Cemetery.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the Foster Grandparent Program.

Born June 17, 1938, in Hamilton, Ohio, Mrs. Conklin was the daughter of William Wesley and Frances Cope Miller. She married Carl H. Conklin on July 6, 1985 at River Road Baptist Church in Hamilton, Ohio.

Surviving with her husband are a son, Steven Russell (Marie) Matheny of Hamilton, Ohio; three daughters, Penny (Richard) Toschlog of Cincinnati, Ohio, Debbie (Samuel) Cox of Butlerville and Becky Matheny of Louisville, Kentucky; a sister, Janet Faye Miller of Atlanta, GA: 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Jeffrey Allen Matheny in 2000; and a sister, Carol York.
