| | | Edith May Bishop, 83, of North Vernon, Indiana, passed away at 12:50 a.m. Saturday, October 4, 2008, at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility in Columbus, Indiana.
Mrs. Bishop retired in 1987 from Regal Rugs in North Vernon, Indiana. She was a lifelong member of the First Christian Church and graduated from North Vernon High School in 1944. She enjoyed golf, bingo, taking trips to Las Vegas and spoiling her grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 7, at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home in North Vernon, Indiana with the Rev. Ron Bridgewater officiating. Calling will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be at Vernon Cemetery.
Memorial may be made through the funeral home to the Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility in Columbus, Indiana.
Born May 24, 1925 in Kentucky, Mrs. Bishop was the daughter of James and Anna (Mack) Fortner. She married Robert D. Bishop on September 4, 1947 in North Vernon, Indiana.
Survivors include one son, Greg (Debbie) Bishop of Columbus; one brother, Charlie (Doris) Fortner of Jennings County; seven sisters, Lucille Redicker of North Vernon, Virginia Booher, Ellen Moore, Stella Kirchner, Sue (Don) Horton, Phyllis (Coy) Blair and Sandy Summerfield all of Jennings County; and three grandchildren, Diana and Julie Bishop of Indianapolis and Zach Bishop of Columbus.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a son, Jerry Lee Bishop; a brother, Bill Fortner; and a sister, Geneva Monday.
