| | | Billy Ramey, 76, of North Vernon, Indiana, passed away at 6:45 a.m. Sunday, October 5, 2008, at home.
Mr. Ramey retired in 1988, after 34 years of service, from Cummins Engine Plant in Columbus, Indiana. He was an active member of Queensville Community Church and served as a Trustee. He was a graduate of North Vernon High School and enjoyed cooking, canning, working outdoors, farming, spending time with his family and friends, and helping others.
The funeral will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 8, at Queensville Community Church in Queensville, Indiana with the Rev. William Ramey officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 7, at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home in North Vernon, Indiana, and after 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the church. There will be a private burial service at Vernon Cemetery at a later date.
Memorial may be made through the funeral home to the Riley Children’s Hospital and the Queensville Community Church.
Born February 29, 1932, in Jennings County, Mr. Ramey was the son of William Jake and Leona Neal Ramey. He married Helen Bowman Ramey on May 25, 1991 in Sevierville, Tennessee.
Surviving with his wife, is one son, Nathan (Sharon) Ramey of North Vernon; one stepson, Harold (Mindy) Garland of Salem, Indiana; six daughters, Dickiey (Dan) Ginger of Seymour, Marla (Randy) Wasson, Stephanie Boles, Jean Hobson and Wanda Dixon of North Vernon, Maedrue (Jerry) Sidwell of Clifford, Indiana; seven brothers, William (Lee Ester) Ramey, William Jack Waltermier, Albert (Minnie) Waltermier, Lloyd (Carolyn) Waltermier of North Vernon, Paul M. (Dottie) Ramey of Scipio, Jimmy Lee (Kay) Waltermier of Deland, FL; and Leonard (Juanita) Waltermier of FL; eight sisters, Mary Lou (Stan) Tuttle and Carolyn Kay (Donnie) Almond of North Vernon, Betty Lou Wilder, Jean Taylor, Anna Marie (Myron) Douglas and Alma (Ronnie) Heavern of Scipio, Juanita Sue Miller of Seymour, and Toni (Larry) Dursi of Texas; 20 grandchildren; and 19 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and four brothers, Robert (Bobby Joe) Waltermier, Kenny Waltermier, Allen Waltermier, and Virgil (Pete) Ramey.
