Jessie May Prewitt, 80, of Butlerville passed away at 12:49 a.m. on Thursday, November 13, 2008, at Jennings Healthcare Center in North Vernon, Indiana.

Mrs. Prewitt was a Rehabilitation Therapy Assistant at the former Muscatatuck State Developmental Center in Butlerville. She retired on March 1, 1990, after 33-1/2 years of employment.

She was a former member of the Matt Hester Post #2021, V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary in North Vernon. She was also a former member of the North Vernon Chapter #183, Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Prewitt spent many years serving the youth of Jennings County as a Girl Scout Leader.

Mrs. Prewitt attended school in Hazard, Kentucky. She enjoyed spending time with her family, playing with her dogs, playing bingo, working with crafts, and sewing.

The funeral will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 15, 2008, at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home in North Vernon, Indiana, with the Rev. Patrick Harrigan officiating. Calling will be on Friday, November 14, 2008, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home and from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday. Burial will be at the Butlerville Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to Hospice of Jennings County.

Born May 22, 1928, in Hazard, Kentucky, Mrs. Prewitt was the daughter of Felix Gilbert and Hermie Louise Mills. She married John Alford Prewitt on February 28, 1948, in Cincinnati, Ohio. He preceded her in death on November 23, 1998.

Surviving are two sons, Jake (Betty) Prewitt and Denny Boyd of Butlerville, Indiana; 2 daughters, Lillian (Kim) Shepherd and Phyllis Pittman Hardwick of Butlerville, Indiana; one sister, Dora (Dan) Habighorst of Greendale, Wisconsin; and 9 grandchildren, John G. (Yolanda) Ross, Jamie (Kerry) Ross, Chad Pittman, and Eric Hardwick, all of Butlerville, Pat (Dan) O'Mara, and Jeremy Ruble, of North Vernon, Jenna (Matt) Allen of Louisville, Colorado, Jessica Boyd of Bloomington, Indiana, and Nick (Stacey) Prewitt of Batesville, Indiana, and 11 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; 1 daughter, Diana Boyd, and 3 brothers, Eugene "Gene" Gilbert, Roy Gilbert, and Haywood Gilbert.
