Edgar James Kelley, 79, of Scipio, Indiana, passed away at 4:40 p.m. on Thursday, December 4, 2008, at Four Seasons Healthcare Center in Columbus, Indiana.

Mr. Kelley retired in 1989 from Arvin Industries after 42 years of service. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was awarded two Purple Hearts. Mr. Kelley joined the North Vernon Lodge #59 F&AM in 1984 and held many offices throughout the years. He was honored to serve as the Worshipful Master in 1996. He was also a member of the Rolling Hills Shrine Club of North Vernon, the Scipio Fire Department for 15 years, the North Vernon Volunteer Fire Department, and the Scipio Presbyterian Church. Mr. Kelley enjoyed spending time with his family, camping, Masonic Lodge activities, and he loved the outdoors.

The funeral will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 9, 2008, at Scipio Presbyterian Church in Scipio, Indiana, with the Rev. Mitch Coggin officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, December 8, 2008, at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home in North Vernon, and after 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, until the time of the service at the Church. A Masonic memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Scipio Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the North Vernon Lodge #59 F&AM or the Scipio Presbyterian Church.

Born September 19, 1929, in Queensville, Indiana, Edgar was the son of Calvert Kelley and Maude Blank Kelley. He married Lucy Jeanette White on December 24, 1949, in North Vernon, Indiana.

Survivors include his wife of almost 59 years, Lucy; one son, Michael Kelley of Scipio; one daughter, Elizabeth Whitehead of Scipio; four grandchildren, Kelli Gresham of Hayden, Hannah Hirtzel of Scipio, Michael Kelley of Scipio, and Lyndsay Kelley of North Vernon; and give great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Lawrence Kelley, Harold Kelley, and Clarence Kelley.
