Berneda Ruth Miles, 85, passed away on Wednesday, December 24, 2008, at 12:26 p.m. at Jennings Healthcare Center in North Vernon, Indiana. Mrs. Miles retired in 1985 from Muscatatuck State Developmental Center as a DST after 17 years of service. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and enjoyed sewing, crocheting, gardening, cooking, and reading. The funeral will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 28, 2008, at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home in North Vernon, Indiana, with the Rev. Kevin Ridder officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service on Sunday, at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be through Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home to Hospice of Jennings County. Online condolences may be given to the family at www.dovesharprudicel.com. Born January 2, 1923, in Jennings County, Indiana, Berneda was the daughter of Otto George Scherschligt and Elizabeth Isabel Hock Scherschligt. She married Fred Thomas Miles on March 28, 1944, in North Vernon, Indiana. He preceded her in death on February 8, 1989. Survivors include two sons, Richard D. (Karen) Miles and Michael E. (Ann) Miles of North Vernon; two daughters, Della M. (Doug) Miller and Rita D. (Clyde) Hyden of North Vernon; 12 grandchildren, Tammy Johnson, Zach (Connie) Hyden, Christopher M. Hyden, Grant Miller, Kent Miller, and Daniel Vogel all of North Vernon, Stacy Miles and Sarah (Ryan) Reecer of Seymour, Travis (Kirstin) Miles of Avon, Aaron Miles of Scottsburg, David (Heather) Miles of Muncie, Susan (Matt) Ellenwood of Seattle, Washington, Benjamin (Marla) Miles of Cincinnati, Ohio; and 8 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Miles was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Francis J. Miles; one brother, Clarence “Bud” Scherschligt; four sisters, Eleanor Greishop, Alma Gehl, Ethel Knecht, and Marie Day.
