Matthew Nelson Webster, 82, of Commiskey, passed away on Friday, December 26, 2008, at 9:05 p.m. at Schneck Medical Center in Seymour, Indiana.

Mr. Webster retired from Cummins Engine Company in Columbus after 20 years of service. He was also employed at Allison Engine in Indianapolis, Day’s Trucking in Taylorsville and was a lifelong farmer.

He attended Lovett School and Purdue University. Mr. Webster served in the U.S. Army from January 30, 1945 to June 29, 1947. He was a member of Tea Creek Baptist Church and enjoyed farming.

The funeral will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 30, 2008, at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home in North Vernon, Indiana, with the Rev. Bob Weeks officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, December 29, 2008, at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and after 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday until the time of the service. Burial will be at Vernon Cemetery with military graveside honors conducted by North Vernon Veterans of Foreign Wars Matt Hester Post 2021.

Memorial contributions may be through Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home to the donor’s choice.

Born December 27, 1925, in Duckers, Kentucky, Matthew was the son of Claude D. Webster and Ella B. Webster. He married Zonal Begley on April 9, 1950, in Lovett, Indiana. She survives.

Surviving along with his wife of 58 years, are three sons, Emery (Jeannie) Webster of Commiskey, Claude Vincent (Sherry) Webster of King Salmon, Alaska, and Duane (Susan) Webster of Rohnert Park, California; one daughter, Brenda (Gary) May of Deputy; one brother, Roy (Lida) Webster of North Vernon; one sister, Nadine (Don) Downey of New Port Richey, Florida; 8 grandchildren; Christine Hunt and Melanie May of Madison, Glenda (Devin) Beckes of Anchorage, Alaska, Amber (Michael) Hunter of Seymour, Troy Webster of Phoenix, Arizona, Derek (Emily) Webster of Burbank, California, Thomas Webster and Sean Webster of Rohnert Park, California; and 8 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Timothy Ferrell Webster; three brothers, Claude Webster, Jr., Emile C. Delph, Vincent E. Webster; and one great-grandson.
