Devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Oliva (Risch) Ansay, of 223 St. Rose Ave. in Fredonia died Saturday, October 18th, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Mequon. She was 87 years of age. Oliva was born in Lake Church on March 8th, 1916, the daughter of John and Katherine (Pohl) Risch.
On April 6th, 1940, she married Clarence Ansay at St. Mary’s Church, Lake Church. Mr. and Mrs. Ansay farmed on the edge of the village of Fredonia until January of 1980. Oliva was known for raising chickens and supplying eggs to friends and relatives. She and her husband were active in square dancing for many years. She also enjoyed playing cards, traveling, and cooking for her large family of children and grandchildren. An excellent seamstress, she taught all of her daughters how to sew. She was a green-thumb gardener and enjoyed working in her flower beds and gardened up to the time of her death.
Friends and family fondly remember Oliva as having a humble, giving nature, and a heart of gold. She lovingly cared for her wheelchair-bound husband, Clarence, after he had a second stroke in 1987 until his death in 1996. She was also preceded in death by three brothers and a grandson, Ricky Peterson.
Mrs. Ansay is survived by two sons: Lester (Lois) of Olathe, KS; Ronald (Christine) of Fredonia; and four daughters: Marie Peterson and Joanne Podjaski of Fredonia; Bernice (Dennis) Jungers of West Bend; and Rosanne Wittkop of Simi Valley, CA. She is also survived by seventeen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by three brothers and a grandson, Ricky Peterson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday evening, October 23, 2003, leaving from the Eernisse Funeral Home, Port Washington, 1600 W. Grand Ave., going to Holy Rosary Parish, St. Rose Chapel in Fredonia for Mass at 7:30 PM. Father Dick Fleischmann and Father James Ernster will officiate. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in St. Rose Cemetery the next day. The family will receive visitors at the Funeral Home Thursday from 3:30 -7PM.
