Erwin “Powerhouse” Arndt, age 84 years of Random Lake died Saturday morning, November 1, 2003 at his residence. He was born July 25, 1919 in Random Lake, son of Frederick and Mary Braun Arndt. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II and married Ilma Wilke on October 23, 1943 at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Waubeka. Mr. Arndt worked for the Village of Random Lake water department and also served as Village Constable. He later worked for Bolens Corp. in Port Washington for 25 years, retiring in 1981. In the mid 1950’s he started Fire Safety Equipment in Random Lake .Mr. Arndt was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Random Lake and was currently a member of the Random Lake Fire Department. He served as chief engineer and later as fire chief from 1955 -1980 serving his community for over 64 years. He was a life member of Wisconsin State Fire Chiefs Association, past president of Badger Firemen’s Association, a former member of Hamm-Miller Post 145 American Legion, and a member of Eastern Wisconsin Firemen’s Association and the International Association of Machinists. Survivors include his wife Ilma, 2 children Robert (Shari) Arndt of Random Lake and Barbara (Edward) Slankard of Kansas City, KS , 6 grandchildren Jeff Arndt, Rhonda Bahr, Cortni Arndt, Chad Arndt, Jeffrey Oertle, Tanya Snyder and the late Nikole Arndt, 9 great grandchildren, 2 brothers Everett (Irmgard) Arndt of Plymouth and Vernon (Marcie) Arndt of Random Lake, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by 1 brother Melvin and 1 granddaughter Nikole. Funeral services will be held on Monday evening, November 3, 7 PM at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 98 Random Lake Road, Random Lake. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Random Lake. Visitation at the CHURCH Monday from 2:30 – 7 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Random Lake Fire Department or St. John’s United Church of Christ appreciated. The Eernisse Funeral Home, Port Washington is assisting the family with services.
