DONALD D BACKMAN

Mr. Don Backman, of County Road RR in Cedar Grove, formerly of Saukville and Belgium, passed away at Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Hospital in Sheboygan on Sunday evening, December 17, 2006. He was 71 years old. Don was born on February 17, 1935 in Manistique, MI, son of George and Evelyn Bowers Backman. He entered the United States Army during the Korean War, serving overseas in Germany. On January 5, 1957 he was united in marriage with Constance Bischof in Milwaukee. The couple moved to Saukville in 1966 and raised their family. They later moved to Belgium and then to Cedar Grove. Mr. Backman worked as an OTR truck driver, most recently for Superior and Custom Cuts. He retired in 2000. Don attended Open Door Bible Church in Port Washington and was a member of the Teamsters Local 43 and Local 200. He was also a member of the American Legion Landt-Theil Post in Sau kville. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, golfing, playing cards and working crossword puzzles. He was a champion arm-wrestler in the Saukville area, taking his title very seriously. Mr. Backman is survived by his wife Connie of Cedar Grove, their four children: Bryon Backman of Sheboygan, Susan (John) Conley of Dallas, TX, Julie (Jeff) Large of Port Washington and Charlyn (Brian) Grover of Cedar Grove. He is further survived by 11 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, a brother, Jack (Emma) Backman of Gulliver, MI, a sister, Elaine (William “Ken” ) Webber of Manistique, MI, a sister-in-law Carol (Linwood) Wagberg of Belgium, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Funeral services will be ! held at 7PM on Friday, December 22nd, at Open Door Bible Church, 3420 Hwy LL, Port Washington. Pastor Jim Engelman and Pastor Sid Litke will officiate. The family will receive visitors at the CHURCH on Friday from 5-7PM. The Eernisse Funeral Home is assisting the family.
