Golda Reed Carter, age 102, of Oak Hill (Pyro), Ohio went to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 3, 2009. She was born January 8, 1907 to the late William and Rebecca Donley Reed, who then resided in Firebrick, Ohio. After Rebecca’s passing, the family relocated to Slab Hollow.
She is survived by sons, Forest (Mary) Carter of Columbus, Ohio, Melvin (Wilmena) Carter, of Centerville, Ohio, Cecil (Shirley) Carter, Merle (Phyllis) Carter, and Alan (Faye) Carter, all of Oak Hill, Ohio; daughters, Rosemary (Roger) Kozma and Betty (Randel) Williams, of Oak Hill, Ohio. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren, eighteen great-great grandchildren and daughter-in-law, Charlotte Carter, of Oak Hill.
In addition to her parents, Golda is preceded in death by her loving husband, Floyd Carter, who she married on April 28, 1925, in Jackson Ohio. She is also preceded in death by three sons, Floyd, Gerald and Freddy Carter; three grandchildren,, Lisa Kozma, Michelle Carter, and Chris Carter; one brother, Pearl Reed; six sisters, Jessie Lawton, Edith Exline, Edna Carter, Hazel Guy, Violet Vititoe, and Verna Norman.
Golda will be missed dearly by all of her family and friends. She lived a very long and fulfilling life. She loved feeding the birds, planting her garden, and her numerous flower gardens. There are no words to express the enjoyment she got from a good softball game. Not only did she love to watch the game, she was the scorekeeper, umpire, and coach all wrapped into one!
The family would like to express their utmost appreciation to the Heartland staff during her extended stay and also to the Heartland Hospice staff for their comfort and support to all of Golda’s family.
Funeral services will be held 1 pm Wednesday October 7, 2009 at the Kuhner-Lewis Funeral Home with Rev Fred Crabtree officiating. Burial will follow in C.M. Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday, October 6, 2009 from 6-8 pm at the funeral home.
“Fan of the Game”
Her love of the game was easy to see
Out at the ball field is where she’d be
She’d say “I’m staying, I have lots of friends”
“I’m not going home until the last game ends”
Paper and pencil to track every run
Never complaining about the hot sun
In my book, you should be in the Hall of Fame
So I’ll end this like Joe Nuxhall ended his games

Until tomorrow Grandma, it’s the old left hander
Rounding third and heading for home!
