William D. “Bill” Jacobs, age 89 passed away December 25, at Holzer Medical Center after several years of failing health.
He was born in Jackson County September 22, 1921, to the late Chester and Blodwen (Dacken) Jacobs. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Analee (Lorbach) Jacobs, daughter Patricia Rowland, granddaughters, Courtney (Jacobs) Turck and Sara Rowland and great grandson, Aidan Turck; daughter-in-law, Sharon Jacobs, step granddaughter, Dena Evans and step great grandchildren, Ashley and Daniel Evans; also sister, Sally Hutchison and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son Randy Scott Jacobs on September 16, 2010.
Bill attended Buckley Elementary School in Franklin Township and graduated from Jackson High School in 1939. Following graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving 6 years mainly in the Pacific Theatre during WW II. After his discharge he assisted his parents in operating their dairy farm, later being employed at the Ohio Fuel Gas Company, Cussins and Fearn and Jackson Implement before accepting employment as a city letter carrier at the Jackson Post Office from which he retired in September, 1983.
He was a member of Franklin Valley U.M. Church, a life member of Valley Grange, and served 15 years on the Board of Directors of the Jackson County Rural Water Company during its beginning years. He was a founding member of the original Apple City Motorcycle Club and was a former member of the Jackson County “C.B.ers”.
According to his wishes he will be cremated with a graveside service at the Franklin Valley Cemetery at the convenience of the family, under the direction of the Eisnaugle-Lewis Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions would be appreciated to the Franklin Valley Cemetery Association c/o Margaret Black, Sec./ Treas., 1249 Clay Banner Road, Oak Hill, Ohio 45656.
