MARQUETTE – Darlene Marie Meyers, 68, of 2472 Center Street, Marquette, entered eternal life Wednesday afternoon, September 30, 2009, at Marquette General Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. She had been hospitalized since Sunday.
Born July 13, 1941 in Marquette, a daughter of Fred and Isabel (Fortin) Beaudry, Sr., Darlene was raised in Marquette and was a 1960 graduate of the Graveraet High School. On August 20, 1960, Darlene married Marvin J. Meyers and together the couple established a home and raised their family in Marquette. Darlene was employed in the housekeeping department at Marquette General Hospital for ten years before resuming her role as fulltime homemaker. Darlene loved working around the house and doing things for her family. One of Darlene’s favorite pastimes was engaging in the traditional folk art of rag rug making. She spent countless hours at her loom creating useful and decorative rag rugs for family and friends. She also enjoyed the handicrafts of sewing, crocheting, embroidery, and quilting. A lover of nature and all it had to offer, Darlene enjoyed the sports of golfing fishing and kayaking. Darlene and Marvin loved to travel, often spending winters in the South and Southwest, enjoying the mountains. Darlene had a special preference for Laughlin and LasVegas, NV.
A loving wife, mother, proud grama, and sister, survivors include her husband of 49 years, Marvin; her children, Linda (Brian) Parks of Grand Rapids, Ron Meyers of Deerton, and Stacey (John) Carter of Marquette; her grandchildren, Keith (Melissa) Parks, Jonathan Meyers, Samantha and Caitlin Carter; her brothers, Raymond (Patty) Beaudry, Fred Beaudry Jr, and Robin (Jennifer) Beaudry all of Harvey; sisters-in-law, Patricia (Jim) Wallenslager and Nancy Wallenslager both of Marquette, Cheryl (special friend, John Lenore) Fortin of Negaunee Township, and Kathy “Kitty” Meyers of Marquette; brothers-in-law, Richard (Bonnie) Meyers of Marquette, Bruce (Audrey) Meyers of Sheboygan, WI, and Eugene Greenleaf of Harvey; numerous nieces and nephews; and her faithful canine companion, Peanut.
