MARQUETTE R. Lois Kilmer, 93, a former resident of Painesdale and Lake Linden, went to sleep in death Wednesday night, September 30, 2009, where she will remain until her resurrection onto a paradise earth with her beloved husband, George.
Born in Painesdale on April 15, 1916, a daughter of Oscar and Grace (Stratton) Key, Lois attended local schools and graduated in 1933. She spent a year at Michigan Technological University in Houghton and then a year at Northern Michigan University in Marquette. Lois was employed at the Land Department of the Copper Range Company in Houghton for a time and, in later years, worked for a brief time at Savela Furnace Company in Hancock. In 1937, she married George Kilmer in Ontonagon and the couple lived in Greenland until 1941 when they moved to Painesdale. George died in 1990 and, in 1991, Lois moved to Lake Linden.
Survivors include her daughters, Grace Parolini of Negaunee and Lois (Joe) Oja of Keweenaw Bay; a son, James (Debra) Kilmer of Bay City; her grandchildren, Lonny (Mary) Naasko, Wanda (Bob) Culpepper, David (Kathy) Parolini, Wendy Wilson, and Liisa Kilmer; and four great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, George, Lois was preceded in death by a son, Owen Kilmer; granddaughter, Kelly Jo Kilmer; a brother, Owen Key; and a sister, Olive Johnston.
A memorial service will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovahs Witnesses in Hancock, Michigan, on Saturday, October 24, 2009 at 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Norlite Nursing Center, Patient Activity Fund, 701 Homestead Street, Marquette, MI 49855.
