John W. Czykoski

MARQUETTE – John W. Czykoski, 92, of 580 Cox Avenue, Marquette, passed away Thursday morning, October 15, 2009, at the Eastwood Nursing Center in Negaunee.
John was born June 23, 1917 in Boyne City, a son of Anton and Jesse (Vaughn) Czykoski, and was raised in Marquette. He was employed by the Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company for many years as a miner at the Mather B Mine in Negaunee. Throughout the years, he held several other jobs, working at Northern Michigan University as a custodian and in Marquette General Hospital’s maintenance department. He was also a driver for Queen City Taxi Company for a time and later drove for Ternus Oil Company. John’s last employment, prior to retirement, was with the Mobil Gas Station in Ishpeming. John was an avid outdoorsman who liked to hunt and fish, and who also enjoyed a good, serious game of cribbage.
Survivors include his daughters, Susan (Michael) Lovelace of Ishpeming and Shirley Slattery of Harvey; sons Richard (Kay) Czykoski of Leesburg, FL and Don Czykoski of Fort Wayne, IN; nine grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine (Thomas) Czykoski; twin infant daughters, Katherine and Agnes; a great-grandson, Kyle; sisters, Amelia and Ethel; and brothers, George, Charles, Ted, and Ed.
Honoring John’s request, no services will be scheduled.
