MARQUETTE – Robert L. Turenne, 79, of 536 E. Ohio Street, Marquette, entered eternal life Monday afternoon, October 26, 2009, at his home, in the comforting and loving care of his family and Lake Superior Hospice.
Bob was born November 1, 1929 in Marquette, the son of Roger and Uldene (Nadeau) Turenne and was a lifelong resident. Bob always enjoyed the hobbies of tinkering and puttering, particularly in his garage, and was a true handyman who could fix just about anything. The Turenne home was the gathering place for family and friends on Friday evenings, where cribbage, good food, and conversation often lasted into late evening. It was also the place to which neighbors went when they needed Bob’s help with repairs. For over 44 years, Bob was employed with Frei Chevrolet, beginning as a mechanic and continuing his career as an auto body repairman. Bob’s other hobbies included his love of hunting, fishing, going to camp, and his appetite for good food no matter what variety. Family was very important to Bob and he had an untiring interest in his nieces, nephews and their children. He was very generous with his time and talent where they were concerned. Bob was a member of the former St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and currently a member of St. Peter Cathedral.
Survivors include his sisters, Ilene White of Harvey, Grace Hyde of Marquette, and Dorothy (Bob) LaJeunesse of Harvey; brother-in-law, Donald “Porky” Koskey; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Koskey; and brothers-in-law, John “Jack” Hyde and Bill White.
The family will receive relatives and friends in the Bishop’s Room at St. Peter Cathedral on Monday, November 2, beginning at 10:00 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the cathedral at 12:00 noon Monday with Rev. Michael Steber, pastor, as celebrant. A reception for family and friends will be held in Cathedral Hall. Inurnment will be made in the Holy Cross Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Rick Weesen, Les Ross, Al Rosina, Josh Wapienick, Joe Lampman, Joe Buys, and Bob Oberg.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Lake Superior Hospice Association, 914 W. Baraga Avenue, Marquette, MI 49855. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to Lake Superior Hospice, the Physicians at Marquette General Hospital, and the Physicians in the Oncology Department at the Upper Peninsula Medical Center for the wonderful care given to Robert and his family over the recent months.
The Fassbender Funeral Home is serving the family.
