Demetrise LaSean Mullen

MARQUETTE, MI – Demetrise LaSean Mullen, age 36, of 2050 Presque Isle Avenue, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at his home.
Demetrise was born March 11, 1973 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, a son of Gregory E. Mullen and Barbara A. Ansley (Isaiah) Salley. He was a 1991 graduate of Hamady High School in Flint, MI and a 1996 graduate of Northern Michigan University, earning his Bachelors of Science degree. He was a member of the Northern Michigan University football team 1991-1996 and was also active as a coach with PoP Warner Football in Marquette. Demetrise was employed by the Marquette Branch Prison in Marquette, MI since 1996 as Administrative Assistant to the Warden. He was a member and Past Master of Marquette Masonic Lodge 101 and member of the Scottish Rite.
Survivors include his wife, Charlene A. (Wurth) Mullen; two sons, Demetrise LaSean Mullen, Jr. and Desmond LaChance Mullen of Marquette; grandparents, Virginia E. Mullen of Farmville, VA, Alfred E. Mullen of St. Louis, MO and Booker (Nina) Ansley of Fort Lauderdale, FL; one sister, Dr. Jennifer L. Mullen of Toledo, OH; and one brother, Torrey D. (Nickie) McBride of Rex, GA; eight aunts, 15 uncles, two nephews and many cousins; special mom, Kimetha T. Watson; and his very special friends, Martin VanBuren, Marvin Miller, Larry Burnette and Oliver Burns. He was preceded in death by his stepmother, Lois V. Mullen; grandmother, Lula Mae Ansley; and his brother, Jerome G. Mullen.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, November 3, 2009 from 3:00 pm until 5:00 pm at Swanson Funeral Home. Following the visitation at 5:00 pm there will be a Masonic service, a Job’s Daughter Lighted Cross Ceremony and a funeral service with Captain Greg van Hartesvelt officiating. On Friday, November 6, 2009 there will be a visitation from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the Lawrence Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park, Flint, Michigan. A funeral service for Demetrise will follow on Saturday, November 7, 2009 with visitation from 10:00 am until time of service at 11:00 am at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, 1215 E. Downey Street, Flint, Michigan with Pastor Morris Collins Jr. officiating. Burial will take place in Flint Memorial Park Cemetery.
