George A. Bush
George Archer Bush, 85, of Kissimmee, FL entered eternal life Thursday evening, November 5, 2009 at his daughter Martha’s home in Big Bay, MI in the comforting and loving care of his family and friends. George Archer Bush was born in Greenford, Ohio in 1924 to Dewey Bush and Mary Archer. George, a former Pastor of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church of Marquette, passed away after struggling with Alzheimer’s Disease for 8 years. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Bush of 63 years; his children Katherine Dishnow (Jay) of Florence, WI, Susan Dettmer (Fred) of Ann Arbor, MI, Martha Bush (Kendall Baker) of Big Bay, MI, Paul Bush (Debra) of Newberry, MI, Daniel Bush (Deborah) of Kissimmee, FL, and John Bush (Maria) of Bothell, WA;16 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren.Also surviving are his brothers, Joseph Bush (Carol) of Canfield, Oh and Raymond Bush (Betty) of Salem, Ohio. George served as a naval officer on the USS Napa in the South Pacific during WWII. Hegraduated from Wittenberg College & Seminary of Springfield Ohio in 1953 and served Lutheran churches in Ohio, Kentucky and Lansing and Marquette, Michigan. He served as a Member of the Board of Suomi College, Hancock, MI, Chaplin for the Civil Air Patrol of Lansing, MI, and Chaplin and Counselor for Camp Michi-Lu-Ca of Fairview, MI. Upon retiring from the ministry George returned to school at NMU earning a Counseling degree. He served as Counselor and Teacher at the Academic School of Marquette Branch Prison for 10 years. George, with his wife Ruth,owned and operated Little Tree Cabins, a fishing camp on Lake Independence in Big Bay, for 17 years. After retirement they resided in Kissimmee, FL.George played violin for the Marquette Symphony Orchestra in the early 1970’s. George loved the north, particularly the wilds of northern Michigan. He hiked, hunted and fished the lakes and streams of this great land. The family will receive relatives and friends in the chapel ofthe D.J. JacobettiHome for Veterans onTuesday, November 10 at 1 p.m.A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Charles Tooman officiating. Friends and relatives wishing to honor his life are asked, in lieu of flowers, to make a contribution to the Lake Superior Hospice of Marquette, whose loving care brought comfort and consolation to him and his family during his final days.
