Allen R. Hazelton, age 62, of Winona, died Friday, October 23, 2009, at Lake Winona Manor. Allen Roger was born May 6, 1947 in Winona to Harley and Annetta (Schmidt) Hazelton. On November 13, 1971, he married Mary Whorton in Winona and she preceded him in death April 20, 2009.
He served in the U.S. Air Force and was a member of the American Legion Post #9 and Westfield Golf Club. He was formerly active in Goodview-Winona Hockey Association. He was employed as a design engineer for TRW, retiring due to disability in January 2001.
He is survived by two children: Vance (Beth) Hazelton, Grand Marais, MN and Marnie (Ken) Srock, Money Creek, MN; four grandchildren: Madelyn, Violet and Mary Marie Srock and Chloe Hazelton; a brother Gary (Marrily) Hazelton, Winona and other relatives.
During his 7 year residence at Lake Winona Manor he developed close relationships with many of the staff; making them his second family. Al was known for his quick wit and good humor around the manor and will be missed by many. The Hazelton family would like to thank Lake Winona Manor for the excellent care that Al received while in residence.
Al was preceded in death by his parents and loving wife Mary. Al and Mary had an amazing commitment to one another. Their devotion to one another is evident in their 38 years of marriage.
Visitation will begin at 5:00 to 8:00 PM, Monday, October 26, 2009 at Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home, Winona and beginning at 9:30 AM Tuesday at the funeral home.
Services to remember Allen will be 10:30 AM Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home, Winona with Pastor Tom Schoen, officiating. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Winona with military burial rites provided by American Legion Leon J. Wetzel Post #9.
