Dateline – Winona, MN
November 1, 2009
David Thomas Valentine passed away Saturday, October 31, 2009 after a courageous two year fight with cancer.
David was born to Edward and Irene (Walchak) Valentine on October 18, 1951 in Winona. On July 7, 1973 he married the love of his life and best friend, Connie Hurlburt Valentine.
David graduated from Cotter High School in 1970. He worked as a cook in many area restaurants including The Happy Chef, Wally’s Supper Club and the Hot Fish Shop. Dave was a total fix-it man and enjoyed working with his hands. Dave finally found his perfect match for a job at Thern, where he worked for 33 years before retiring. Dave enjoyed boating on the Mississippi River and at one time he owned a boathouse, where Connie and he spent much of their summers.
Dave enjoyed eating and never would pass on an invite to go out to eat or have a home cooked meal. He enjoyed the garden he and Connie had; watching his 50 tomato plants grow and then giving away most of them. It was the simple things in life that made Dave happy. Dave is going to be greatly missed by his wife, Connie and their very special puppy Emily.
David is survived by his loving wife Connie, brother Dayle (Rebecca) Valentine, Rochester, MN., sister Judy (Robert) Beck, Winona, brother-in-law Louis Hurlburt, Jr., Winona, sister-in-law Raven (Todd) Chirpich, Mankato, MN and nieces and nephews, Jeff Hurlburt and Shelly Turnbell, Carly Chirpich, Andrew Valentine, Eric, Scott and Jacquelyn Beck.
David was preceded in death by his mother and father as well as his mother and father-in-laws.
We love you Uncle Dave and you will always be with us.
