|Deward “Dewey” Grossell, age 72, of Winona, Minnesota died Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at his home surrounded by his loving family after a long courageous battle with cancer.
Dewey was born on December 25, 1939 in Fountain City, Wisconsin to Joseph and Olivia Grossell. After graduation, on June 18, 1957 he enlisted in the United States Army. Dewey proudly served his country until he was honorably discharged on June 9, 1959.
On June 16, 1962 he was united in marriage to Patricia A. Kreuzer in Winona. This union was blessed with four children: Mitch, Tom, Steve and Rob.
Dewey worked at Bay State Milling Company for over thirty years. After his retirement he began driving bus for Minnesota City Bus Company which allowed him to support and follow his grandchildren’s participation in sporting events.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Patty of Winona, Minnesota; children: Mitch (Teresa) Grossell of Winona, Minnesota; Tom (Nellie) Grossell of Pahrump, Nevada; Steve (Renee) Grossell of Stockton, Minnesota; and Rob (Michelle) Grossell of Reno, Nevada; grandchildren: Chad, Justin, Dustin, Heather, Kaila, Samantha, Amanda, Brandon, Devon, Skyler, Kylie, Dylan, and Danielle; great-grandchildren: Willie, Adison, Emma, Arianna, and Aiden; siblings: Marilyn Schollmeier, Lavonne Gunderson, Betty Lou (Dan) McCorry, Mike (Jean) Grossell; mother-in-law: Dorothy Kreuzer; brothers-in-law: Ted Kreuzer, Earl Jr. “Bud” Kreuzer, and Karl (Char) Kreuzer; sisters-in-law: Kathleen Morken, Ellen (Dennis) Pickar, Sally (Dick) Johnson; other extended family and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law: Earl Kreuzer; brothers-in-law: Gary Morken, Arthur Schollmeier, and Vernon Gunderson; and sister in law: Linda Kreuzer Brooks.
Funeral Mass will be 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 25, 2012 at the Basilica of St. Stanislaus Kostka in Winona with the Very Reverend Thomas J. Hargesheimer presiding. Visitation will began at 12 noon until time of service and then following the Mass in the church basement. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Winona.
The honorary bearers will be Dewey’s grandchildren.
