Ovella Cooksey, 89, of Spartanburg, died Monday, November 2, 2009, at her home. Born April 26, 1920, in Spartanburg, SC, she was the daughter of the late Joel Flakey and Maybell Petty Womick and the wife of the late William Dupre Cooksey. She was a member of North Spartanburg Church of God.

Survivors include a son, James Cooksey of Spartanburg; two daughters, Dorothy Bogan of Cowpens, and Brenda Haywood of Spartanburg; two sisters, Minnie W. Bagwell of Gaffney, and Vinnie W. Hembree of Clifton; twelve grandchildren; and twenty-one great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two sons, William H. Cooksey and Robert Lee Cooksey; five brothers, Boyce, Broadus, James H., Walter, and Romeo Womick; and four sisters, Mary Sprouse, Dorabell, Gracey, and Sarah Womick.

Visitation will be 7:00-9:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 4, 2009, at North Spartanburg Church of God. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 5, 2009, at North Spartanburg Church of God conducted by the Rev. Larry Flippo and the Rev. Tony Mitchell. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

The family is at their respective homes.
