Robert Wesley Michael was born on February 25, 1925, to John and Alma (Plath) Michael near Magnolia, Iowa. Bob attended Magnolia Public Schools, and he farmed with his parents. On July 6, 1947, Bob married Doris H. Marley at the Logan Christian Church. Bob continued to farm until 1953 at which time he went to work for the Central Iowa Telephone Company. This company eventually became GTE. After 33 years he retired from GTE in 1986.
Bob was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Logan. He had served sixteen years on the Logan City Council, two years as Logan mayor, 26 years on the Logan Fire Department, and he was on the Logan building and zoning committee. Bob also served as the Cub Scout Master and enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Bob died on Saturday, August 22, 2009, at the Rose Vista Nursing Home in Woodbine at the age of 84 years, five months and 28 days.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Doris on January 2, 2005; and brother, Don Michael in 1972. He is survived by his four children, Pamela and Robert Stoffel, Peggy and Dean Corpman and Patty and Wallace Otey all of Omaha, Nebraska, Robert J. and Rebecca Michael of Logan, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; sister Lila and Dick Burkholder of Lakewood, Colorado; sister-in-law, Vi Michael of Omaha, Nebraska; and many other relatives and friends.
