| | | Lena Kathryn (Bahr) Peterson was born November 29, 1920, to Daniel and Mary (Andresen) Bahr in Dunlap, Iowa. She was raised in the Dunlap area and attended country school. Lena married Raymond Jochims, and the couple was blessed with four children. The family lived in Dunlap where Lena worked at the Dunlap Grill. Lena married Elmer “Joe” Peterson on December 26, 1962. The couple farmed between Logan and Woodbine. In 1966 they purchased the Westside Tap and moved into Woodbine where the two worked side by side until they sold the business in 1979. Lena continued to work at the Westside Tap and also at Bob’s Café. Joe died on January 31, 2003.
Lena was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Lena died on Wednesday, September 2, 2009, at Rose Vista Nursing Home in Woodbine, Iowa at the age of 88 years, nine months, and four days.
Lena was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elmer “Joe” Peterson; daughter, Bonnie Jochims; son-in-law, Terry Collins; two brothers, Ray and Don Bahr; and two sisters, Clara Jochims and Della Rizzo. She is survived by her three children, Danny Jochims, Mary Jo Collins both of Woodbine, Iowa, Judy (James) Howie of Omaha, Nebraska, step-daughter, Toni Wilcoxen of Council Bluffs, Iowa; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; brother, Roger (Donna) Bahr of Pisgah, Iowa; two sisters, Betty Fitzgerald of Dunlap, Iowa; Lois (Herb) Gundelach of Fiddletown, California; and many other relatives and friends.
