| | | PORTSMOUTH – Hattie Mae Moore Shope, 88, formerly of Gloucester Avenue, Portsmouth, went to be with the Lord on September 22, 2009 in Chesapeake. A native of Norfolk she was the daughter of the late John W. Moore, Sr. and Harriet Francis Moore. She was the wife of the late William L. Shope and a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church and attended Fairview Heights Baptist Church in Portsmouth on Sunday nights. She worked many years in the credit departments of W. G. Swartz Department Store and Hofheimer’s Shoe Stores from which she retired.
She is survived by a brother, John Wesley Moore, Jr. and wife, Dorothy of Virginia Beach; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Moore Ballard and a brother, Harry Lee Moore.
A funeral service will be held on Friday at 1:30 p.m. at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church with Rev. Finley Jones officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. and at 921 Old Homestead Lane, Virginia Beach at all other times. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 437 Providence Road, Chesapeake, VA 23325 or Union Mission Ministries, 130 Brooke Avenue, Norfolk, VA 23510.
