Mrs. Grace Curtis Smith, Secretary, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother
Grace Curtis Smith of Milford, PA and former long time resident of West Milford, NJ and Ocala, Florida passed away at home after a long battle with Lewy Body Dementia with her family at her side on October 20, 2008. She will be deeply missed by all those who love her including her family and many lifelong friends.
Mrs. Smith was born on September 21, 1931 in Kenilworth, NJ. She was the sixth of seven children born to Reginald Gerard Curtis and Elizabeth Ellen Bryant Curtis. Grace was a 1949 graduate of Butler High School and married classmate, Donald Francis Smith on March 31, 1950.
She worked for many years as a secretary for the West Milford Twp. School District in West Milford, NJ. She was an avid gardener who loved exercise, hard work, and the outdoors. Grace was friendly and warm and loved by all who knew her. She was known to always be the first person in the neighborhood to jump to someone else’s aid when they were going through a difficult time and was always a source of strength to others.
Mrs. Smith was predeceased by her husband, Donald and five of her six siblings. She is survived by her daughters Gladys Smith Stefany of Milford, PA , Kathleen Smith Imparato of Wantage, NJ and, Gwendolyn Smith Bills of Warwick, NY. Mrs. Smith is also survived by her grandchildren whom she loved with all her heart: Mary Bills Sharp of Olympia, WA, Gregory Bills and Jason Bills of NJ, Ruth, Philip, and Jessica Stefany of Milford, PA, and Laura and Michelle Imparato of Wantage, NJ. Grace is further survived by the greatest joys of her life, her four great-grandchildren: Random Water, Louisa Water, and Francis Sharp of Olympia, WA and Ayya DeWaal of Wantage, NJ.
Funeral services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
