Mrs. Jane W. Kowal of Port Jervis, NY, passed away at her home after a long, courageous battle with cancer on Monday morning, November 3, 2008 with her family by her side. She was 77.
She was born February 15, 1931 in Port Jervis, NY the daughter of the late Louis C. and the late Mary “Molly” Watt Horsman.
She was married to Michael Kowal for 55years.
She was a lifetime resident of Port Jervis, having graduated from Port Jervis High School in 1949. Jane attended Columbia Presbyterian School of Nursing, and was forced to retire with a serious back injury.
Jane was active with her swimming and bowling in the Ladies League. She also enjoyed her Monday night “Card Club” with all her friends. She was employed at Candy Cane Day Nursery, Hoppey’s Grocery Store and Denege’s Clothing Store.
A family statement read: “She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who loved to play with her three labs. She always would put others in front of herself. She will be deeply missed.”

Surviving are:
Her loving husband of 55 years Michael Kowal at home.
1 Son: David Kowal and his wife Karen of Port Jervis
1 Daughter: Suzanne Lutz and her husband Doug of Dingman´s Ferry, PA
2Grandchildren: Glen and Nicole Lutz of Dingman´s Ferry, PA
Step Granddaughter: Heather Jenkins of San Diego, CA
2 Brothers: Dr. Paul Horsman of Port Jervis
David Horsman and his wife Nita of Orlando, FL
2 Sisters-in-Law Mary and Eleanor Kowal of Port Jervis
8 Nieces: Janet Ridder of Grosse Point Farms, MI
Susan Dapolito of Clyde, NY
Virginia Murphy of East Hampsted, NH
Karen Franklin of Woodstock, GA
Kathy Horsman of Woodstock, GA
Mary Ann Semerano of Port Jervis
Evanna Sullivan of Utica, NY
Ann Marie Latini of Port Jervis
8 Nephews: Tom Kowal, John Kowal Jr., Nat Kowal, Joe Kowal, Richard Kowal, Peter Kowal and Carl and Michael Mandzy of Matamoras, PA.
Also several other Great nieces and nephews.
3 Grand Dogs: Daisy, Maggie and Bubba, who will miss her many treats along with “Sophie” at the Medicine Shoppe.

Friends may call at the GRAY-PARKER FUNERAL HOME, INC. 100 East Main Street Port Jervis on Wednesday, November 5, 2008 2:00 - 4:00 & 7:00 - 9:00.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 6, 2008 at 10:00am at the GRAY-PARKER FUNERAL HOME.

Burial will be at St. Mary´s Cemetery, Port Jervis, NY.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Orange County Unit, Wisner Prof. Bl, 407 E. Main St., Middletown, N.Y. 10940 or Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, N.Y. 12550.
