Mr. Denis J. Governale of Port Jervis, NY and a longtime resident of the area died Sunday, May 10, 2009 at Milford Senior Care & Rehabilitation Center. He was 85.

He was born March 9, 1924 in Bronx, NY the son of the late John and the late Irene R. DiGiovanni Governale.

Denis married Patricia Cole on September 18, 1955 in the Deerpark Reformed Church, Port Jervis.

He was the Co-Owner with his wife Patricia of The Little Paper in Port Jervis for 29 years.
Denis proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during WW II and was a member of the Tri-States Naval Ship, VFW Post No. 7241, Port Jervis, NY.

He was also a past Senior Civilian Employee at West Point Information Office where he was responsible for the coordination of Press Releases and major event planning including visits by the President of the United States.
Denis spoke the very first words over the air for WDLC in Port Jervis when it first opened.
He was the past Public Relations Director for St. Francis Hospital in Port Jervis and was the Civil Service Commissioner for the City of Port Jerivs for many years.
Denis was a Drummer and a member of the Musicians Union. He also played in the bands of Lum Trovei and Jimmy Neutts.

Surviving are:
Wife: Patricia Governale At home.
Daughter: Irene Smith and her husband Warren Port Jervis, NY
Brother: Thomas Governale and his wife Patricia Keyport, NJ
3 Grandchildren: Mark Smith, Anjanette Miranda and Matthew Smith
4 great -grandchildren
Niece, Lea Governale and nephew, Thomas Governale of New Jersey.

He was predeceased by a grandson, Wayne Smith.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at 8:00 PM in Gray-Parker Funeral Home, 100 E. Main St., Port Jervis, NY 12771.

Cremation will be at H.G. Smith Crematory, Stroudsburg, PA.
