Mr. Lee Wallace Carr of Port Jervis, NY and a 15 year resident of the area died Monday, June 8, 2009 at Bon Secours Community Hospital. He was 70.
He was born October 1, 1938 in St. Petersburg, FL the son of the late George and the late Catherine Hardnett Carr.
He was married to the late Mary E. Hopkins Carr who died November 6, 2004.
Lee was a Professional Boxer for 15 years fighting under the name of Lee Carr. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army.
A family statement read: “Lee Wallace Carr was a multi faceted person. He was a professional boxer who trained in the Catskills and even sparred with famous boxers such as Muhammad Ali. He was an avid reader who loved to read almost anything. He played in a band and took up the Saxaphone, Bass Guitar, Harmonica and the Conga Drums. He became a Driving Instructor and was a Jack of All Trades who could fix almost anything even with Duct Tape. Lee also became an automobile mechanic.”
Daughter: Jerri-Lynn Carr-Suber and her husband Robert of Parlin, NJ
2 Daughters: Leval Carr-Barrera of Elmsford, NY and Ghiltina Carr of Covington, GA.
1 Sister: Dolores Rowland of Schenectady, NY
6 Grandchidren: Lee Wallace Carr, Dante Jr., Jessica, Jason, Daniel and Special Grandchild Christine ''Chrisy''. Also several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews
2 Predeceased Brothers: George Carr & Joseph Carr
Lee was formerly married to the late Alice Malcolm Carr.
The family will receive friends at the GRAY-PARKER FUNERAL HOME, 100 East Main Street Port Jervis, NY on Saturday, June 13, 2009 from 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm
Cremation will be at H.G. Smith Crematory, Stroudsburg, PA.
